Austin Hand Group was founded in 2006 by Dr. Ira Lown and has since expanded to a 3,000 square foot facility in Westlake. We are located on Bee Cave Road near the intersection of Walsh Tarlton Lane. This location provides easy access from both Loop 1 and Capital of Texas Hwy, with plenty of free outside and reserved covered parking. Austin Hand Group now offers a full time, on-site Occupational Therapist, Lisa Howard, OTR. Austin Hand Group strives to stay "green" by minimizing paper use, and utilizing electronic communication, documentation, and digital X-Rays that do not require chemical processing.
Dr. Ira Lown is licensed in the State of Texas, Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and an Orthopaedic Hand Fellowship-trained hand surgeon. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and has earned a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hand. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas, Austin and his medical doctorate at the University of Texas - Houston Medical School and continued his residency training at Mt. Sinai (Cabrini) in New York, NY. His Orthopaedic Hand Fellowship was with world-renowed hand surgeon and author of "The Wrist," H. Kirk Watson, M.D. Texas native, Dr. Lown resides and works in the beautiful Austin area where he spends time with his wife and three children. He enjoys golf, sailing, skiing, and UT football.

Lisa is a licensed occupational therapist who provides 25 years of valuable OT Hand and Wrist experience to patients at Austin Hand Group. She received her Bachelors of Science in Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman's University. She is a member of the Texas Occupational Therapy Association, and the American Society of Hand Therapists. Lisa has shared her knowledge and experience by contributing to journals and textbooks. She treats patients with elbow, wrist, and hand issues. She accepts current Austin Hand Group patients as well as outside referrals. Lisa offers special early morning hours to accommodate her patients starting at 6:00 a.m. She enjoys playing tennis, piano, reading, and college football.
