Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19)

Austin Hand Group remained open through the COVID-19 initial executive order for urgent and traumatic care, and will continue to be available for patients and referring physicians. We have expanded evaluation and management services for not only urgent, but also non-urgent conditions via both telemedicine and in-office appointments (including Occupational Therapy). Elective surgery scheduling has resumed.

The COVID-19 disaster is a rapidly evolving situation, therefore, we will remain diligent to adhere to each of the executive orders and physician practice recommendations through the governing entities.

TELEMEDICINE APPOINTMENTS - Telemedicine appointments can be scheduled for all providers, including Occupational Therapy. Your insurance carrier may be covering telemedicine visits at a waived copay/deductible. Call the member services number on the back of your card and inquire if your carrier has made such a waiver during the COVID-19 disaster for your specific plan. General eligibility and benefits for your insurance plan will be obtained by AHG staff for routine copays, deductibles, and surgery estimates.

IN-OFFICE APPOINTMENTS - We are currently scheduling in-office appointments for all providers, including Occupational Therapy, with the following requirements:

  • FACE MASKS/COVERING - A face mask or covering must be worn when entering the building and while in the exam room.

  • COVID-19 SYMPTOM/RISK SCREENING - A series of questions will be asked to screen for risk for COVID-19.

    • SYMPTOMS: In the last 48 hours have you had any of the following: fever (100.5 F or above), cough, trouble breathing, shortness of breath or severe wheezing, chills, muscle aches, sore throat, diarrhea, sudden loss of smell or taste, or headaches.

    • EXPOSURE RISK: Have you been within 6 feet of a person with a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 for 5 minutes or greater, or had direct contact with their mucus or saliva, in the past 14 days?

    • TRAVEL: Any recent travel that would have increased your chance for exposure to COVID-19 (i.e. international travel or states with large "hot spots")?

  • IF YOU BECOME SICK OR ILL, PLEASE CANCEL YOUR APPOINTMENT IMMEDIATELY

  • SOCIAL DISTANCING PRACTICES AND EFFORTS TO MINIMIZE EXPOSURE:

    • AVOID BRINGING OTHERS TO YOUR APPOINTMENT - Please avoid bringing others to accompany you to your appointment unless absolutely essential (i.e parents or minors, translators, patients with disabilities or handicaps). If you do require someone to transport you to your visit, we recommend they stay in the car unless you require assistance within the office or during your visit.

    • PLEASE COMPLETE NEW PATIENT PAPERWORK ELECTRONICALLY - In an effort to minimize the handling/processing of physical paperwork, we are asking new patients to complete paperwork online.

    • HAND WASHING/SANITIZING - Since we specialize in treatment of wrist, hand, and finger injuries & disorders there is necessary hand to hand contact between patients and staff, in order to effectively examine and evaluate your condition. Therefore, you will be asked to wash or sanitize your hands once in the exam room.

Austin Hand Group will continue to share any updates on our website.
